Don’t you just love a bag with multiple useful storage compartments? This chapter is about clipart that has naturally occurring sections that function just like storage compartments.
Sections can come in very handy for skills where there are multiple question inputs. Check out the ideas below!
The Ideas
Idea #1: Halloween Place Values
Clipart:Coffin – less details Skill: Place Values/Tens and Ones Notes: This is a 3-section example. One section serves as the question input, while the other 2 are for students to answer the question. The horizontal wooden strips worked perfectly for this example!
Idea #2: Soda Cans Synonyms and Antonyms
Clipart:Soda Can Skill:Synonyms and Antonyms Notes: The soda can gives you 2 sections. That’s great for synonyms, verbs, nouns, adjectives, comparing numbers, etc.
Idea #3: 10 More 10 Less Dino Eggs
Clipart:Dinosaur Egg Nest Skill: 10 more 10 less Notes: This is a special category of sections – 3 in a row! That’s perfect for 1 more 1 less, number order, etc.
Idea #4: Honeycomb Facts
Clipart:Honeycomb Skill: Addition Facts/Number Sentences Notes: If you have a clipart with many, many sections, it’s great for multiple answer MCQs. In this example it’s equal equations. Students color all the answers that are equal to 10. It can work for rhymes, subitizing, sight words, etc.

Clipart:Snow Fort Skill: Sight Words Notes: This is another example of a clipart with many, many sections. In this case, it’s an example of sight words. Out of the many options, students select all of the particular sight word.
Idea #6: Carrot Patch Comparing Numbers
Clipart:Carrots 2 in a row Skill: Comparing Numbers Notes: Here are 2 sections, and students color/select the correct one. With this particular carrot patch, there are more possibilities, since it’s possible to add text in the soil patch too.

Clipart:Rainbow with Pot of Gold Skill: 10 Frames Notes: You can create the ten frames easily using the table function in PowerPoint. The squares here are about 0.55″ wide.

Clipart:Poison Bottle – without label Skill: Comparing Numbers Notes: This works with lots of clipart as long as there are some empty space to layer text.

There are so many skills that sorting activities are great for, and also so many themes that make for great sorting activities. Always be on the lookout for great sorting ideas and themes!

Clipart:Laundry Basket + Underwear Skill: True or False Notes: True or False is a specific kind of sorting that can also be applied to many skills.
Idea #5: Multiple Choice Fishing
Clipart:Sea + Hook with note + Fish Skill:Digraphs Notes: Containers also make for great MCQ questions. Put the question in the container and the choices in the matching items.
Idea #6: Draw the Cookies (Number Sense)
Clipart:Baking Tray + Cookie Skill: Draw the number Notes: Containers are great for all kinds of number sense activities.

Clipart:Sandcastle + Seashells Skill: Color by Code – Sight Words Notes: Technically it’s possible to create this color by code just with the seashells. But it looks cooler with the sandcastle!

Clipart:Geological Site + Bones Skill: Sight Words Notes: In future thematic sets, I’m going to try to incorporate more square frames and letter-sized frames, so that they can fit things like word searches, word mazes and 100s charts.

Clipart:Empty Jar + Firefly Skill: Addends Notes: In this case, the firefly acts as the placeholder/blank, and the jar is where you write the answer. This setup can be applied to multiple skills like missing letters and missing numbers where you make use of a placeholder/blank.

Clipart:Briefcase Skill: Writing Paper Notes: Here’s one way to make writing cool! Containers make for great thematic writing papers.

Clipart:Briefcase + Manila Envelop + File Folder + Notepad Skill: Main Idea + Details Notes: To make this even cooler, add some Secret Agent kids to the page! The kids were left out for this example because the point is just to illustrate the multiple matching items.

Clipart:Grill + Steak + Burger Skill: Make 10 Notes: Making 10 servings is a fun idea, so you can tell the kids their goal is to feed 10 people.

Idea #1: Magic Wand + Cloud Matching Center
Clipart:Magic Wand + Cloud Skill:Base 10 Blocks Notes: The wand only provides space for a number of a letter, but the cloud gives a lot more. So it’ll work for anything counting, addition, alphabet, etc.
Idea #2: Burger + Fries Matching Center
Clipart:Burger + French Fries Skill:Homonyms Notes: The text and visuals don’t always have to be inside the clipart to create matching activities. You can create burger and french fries cards and leave all the content in the outside space.
Idea #3: Fishing Rod + Fish Matching Center
Clipart:Fishing Rod + Fish Skill: Adverbs/Adjectives Notes: Some pieces like the fishing rod or the limo are special because they are long enough to fit sentences. That makes them great for specific grammar/phonics activities
Idea #4: Taco + Drink Matching Worksheet
Clipart:Taco + Soda Cup Skill: Addition Notes: Both the taco and soda cup are pretty spacious, so they’ll be great for lots of matching activities. This idea highlights a worksheet where students draw lines to match the addition taco with the correct answer. It can also be a recording sheet for a matching center.

Clipart:Bee + Hive Skill:Tracing Lines Notes: Matching things are great for any kind of activities that go from one end to another. Fine motor activities or board games would be good examples.
Idea #6: Flip Flops Matching Worksheet
Clipart:Flip Flops Skill: Addition Notes: Any kind of footwear from boots, sneakers to glass slippers are great for matching activities because they come in both left, and right. In this type of worksheet, students first solve the question, then use their answers to look for the color code.

Clipart:Washing Machine + Shirt Skill: Addition Notes: Matching things are great for thematic cut and paste worksheets, preferably clipart pieces with enough space for text/other clipart.

Clipart:Fried Chicken + Chicken Bucket Skill: Adjectives Notes: Graphic Organizers can be really dull and boring, or they can be really fun and delicious. Items with lots of space are fantastic for this.
Idea #12: Worksheet Version of Build a Word
Clipart:Cloud + Raindrop Skills:CVC Notes: This is the worksheet version of a Build-a-Word center. Instead of finding the pieces, students write the letters in the raindrop.
Idea #13: Worksheet Version of MCQ
Clipart:Guacamole + Chip Skill: Number Words Notes: Each of the box on the worksheet is like an MCQ question. The question is in the guacamole cup and the students color the correct chip.

Clipart:Lemon Basket + Lemon Skill: Rhymes Notes: In this version of multiple choice, there are several correct answers, so kids have to color multiple lemons in each row.

Clipart:Honeycomb + Honey Jar + Bee Skill: Number Order Notes: With a little bit of imagination, students can imagine the little bees carrying the words from the honeycomb to the jars.

The Ideas
Idea #1: Popsicle Matching
Clipart:Popsicle Top and Bottom Skill:Ending Digraphs Notes: The other ideas here use 1 single piece clipart, but for this particular example, the top and bottom of the popsicle already exist as separate pieces. They can be great for digital drag and drop resources.
Idea #2: Pie Matching
Clipart:Pie Skill:Compound Words Notes: When you cut along the line in the middle of the pie, the pie gets turned into a matching puzzle. If you are creating for digital version, you can crop half the pie on each side.
Idea #3: Gingerbread Matching
Clipart:Gingerbread Skill: Number Words/Place Values Notes: In the earlier examples, the texts are all within the thematic clipart, but it does not always have to be. Leaving the text outside gives you more space and more freedom with the shape of the puzzle.
Idea #4: Ninja Kids Matching Strips
Clipart:Ninja Kids Skill: Addition and Subtraction Facts Notes: If you have a longer/taller piece of clipart, you can create a 3-piece matching puzzle. They are ‘self-checking’ since the kids can see if they picture turns out right.
