How to use clipart: Matching Things (chapter 2)
Wondering what you can create with just 2 pieces of clipart? Here are some ideas! Would be best if the 2 pieces are somewhat related to each other.
With each idea, come up with your variations using other clipart themes!
The Ideas
Idea #1: Magic Wand + Cloud Matching Center
Clipart: Magic Wand + Cloud
Skill: Base 10 Blocks
Notes: The wand only provides space for a number of a letter, but the cloud gives a lot more. So it’ll work for anything counting, addition, alphabet, etc.
Idea #2: Burger + Fries Matching Center
Clipart: Burger + French Fries
Skill: Homonyms
Notes: The text and visuals don’t always have to be inside the clipart to create matching activities. You can create burger and french fries cards and leave all the content in the outside space.
Idea #3: Fishing Rod + Fish Matching Center
Clipart: Fishing Rod + Fish
Skill: Adverbs/Adjectives
Notes: Some pieces like the fishing rod or the limo are special because they are long enough to fit sentences. That makes them great for specific grammar/phonics activities
Idea #4: Taco + Drink Matching Worksheet
Clipart: Taco + Soda Cup
Skill: Addition
Notes: Both the taco and soda cup are pretty spacious, so they’ll be great for lots of matching activities. This idea highlights a worksheet where students draw lines to match the addition taco with the correct answer. It can also be a recording sheet for a matching center.
Idea #5: Bee + Hive Matching
Clipart: Bee + Hive
Skill: Tracing Lines
Notes: Matching things are great for any kind of activities that go from one end to another. Fine motor activities or board games would be good examples.
Idea #6: Flip Flops Matching Worksheet
Clipart: Flip Flops
Skill: Addition
Notes: Any kind of footwear from boots, sneakers to glass slippers are great for matching activities because they come in both left, and right. In this type of worksheet, students first solve the question, then use their answers to look for the color code.
Idea #7: Cut and Paste Worksheet
Clipart: Washing Machine + Shirt
Skill: Addition
Notes: Matching things are great for thematic cut and paste worksheets, preferably clipart pieces with enough space for text/other clipart.
(Matching 1 to multiple)
Idea #8: Grill + Steak + Steak
Clipart: Grill + Steak
Skill: Multiplication
Notes: Instead of matching 1 item to 1 all the time, you can also do 2-to-1 matching. Number bonds are a common use of 2-to-1 matching.
Idea #9: Christmas Tree + Present + Present + Present
Clipart: Christmas Tree + Present
Skill: Place Values
Notes: Now it’s 3-to-1 matching. You still only need 2 pieces of clipart, even though the presents can come in many colors.
Idea #10: Build a Word with Bubbles + Bubble Bottle/Wand
Clipart: Bubble + Bubble Bottle/Wand
Skill: CVCe
Notes: Matching things are also great for build-a-word activities, both for phonics and sight words.
Idea #11: Fried Chicken Graphic Organizer
Clipart: Fried Chicken + Chicken Bucket
Skill: Adjectives
Notes: Graphic Organizers can be really dull and boring, or they can be really fun and delicious. Items with lots of space are fantastic for this.
Idea #12: Worksheet Version of Build a Word
Clipart: Cloud + Raindrop
Skills: CVC
Notes: This is the worksheet version of a Build-a-Word center. Instead of finding the pieces, students write the letters in the raindrop.
Idea #13: Worksheet Version of MCQ
Clipart: Guacamole + Chip
Skill: Number Words
Notes: Each of the box on the worksheet is like an MCQ question. The question is in the guacamole cup and the students color the correct chip.
(Matching 1 to a whole row)
Idea #14: Counting On from the Washing Machine
Clipart: Washing Machine + Laundry Basket
Skill: Counting On
Notes: There are loads you can do by arranging the matching clipart in a row. The first idea is counting on. You can also do counting backwards, or place the washing machine in any of the slots.
Idea #15: Broomstick Patterns
Clipart: Cauldron + Broomstick
Skill: Patterns
Notes: Patterns are another great application of clipart rows.
Idea #16: Adding 3 lemons/numbers
Clipart: Lemon Squeeze + Pitcher
Skill: Adding 3 or 4 numbers
Notes: A row of clipart is a fun way to add numbers especially when you are adding quite a few.
Idea #17: Place Values MCQ
Clipart: Watering Can + Flower
Skill: Place Value
Notes: (not much notes here)
Idea #18: Lemon Basket Rhymes
Clipart: Lemon Basket + Lemon
Skill: Rhymes
Notes: In this version of multiple choice, there are several correct answers, so kids have to color multiple lemons in each row.
Idea #19: Number Order Bees
Clipart: Honeycomb + Honey Jar + Bee
Skill: Number Order
Notes: With a little bit of imagination, students can imagine the little bees carrying the words from the honeycomb to the jars.
Idea #20: Finding Facts
Clipart: Magnifying Glass + File Folder
Skill: Addition Facts
Notes: Like in the previous example, there can be multiple answers in each row. Students will find all the correct files and color them.
(Others)
Idea #21: Sandwich Sorting Worksheet
Clipart: Sandwich + Picnic Basket
Skill: Ending Blends
Notes: This is a worksheet version of a sorting activity. Instead of moving the pieces, students write the words in the correct box.
Idea #22: Flip and Cover/Bump
Clipart: Squeeze Bottle + Sauce Splat
Skill: Sight Words
Notes: You can create flip and cover activities with just 2 clipart. Having multiple colors of each of the clipart does make it more interesting.
How to Use Clipart
I have been thinking about how teachers use clipart for a long time now, so that my clipart can be really useful. And these chapters are the result of all that figuring out. Each chapter introduces a way of thinking about clipart to help you make the most of your purchases and grow your TpT store.
