How to use clipart: Containers + Matching Items (chapter 5)
Containers are yet another great clipart mechanism to help you create amazing educational resources. Put matching things, text boxes and other clipart inside thematic clipart containers to create some fun!
For each idea, come up with your own variations!
The Ideas
Idea #1: Pepperoni Word Families
Clipart: Pizza Base + Pepperoni
Skill: Word Families
Notes: This is great for posters, craft, bulletin board display, etc.
Idea #2: Subitizing Fossils
Clipart: Empty Fossil + Dino Footprint
Skill: Subitzing, Counting Fingers, Dice
Notes: This subitizing setup can be used for many other sorting skills.
Idea #3: Syllables Nest Sorting
Clipart: Empty Nest + Eggs
Skill: Syllables
Notes: Sorting activities are one of the best use of clipart containers. There are so many skills that sorting activities are great for, and also so many themes that make for great sorting activities. Always be on the lookout for great sorting ideas and themes!
Idea #4: True or False Sorting Laundry Baskets
Clipart: Laundry Basket + Underwear
Skill: True or False
Notes: True or False is a specific kind of sorting that can also be applied to many skills.
Idea #5: Multiple Choice Fishing
Clipart: Sea + Hook with note + Fish
Skill: Digraphs
Notes: Containers also make for great MCQ questions. Put the question in the container and the choices in the matching items.

Notes: Containers are great for all kinds of number sense activities.
Idea #7: Packing Pretzels (Number Sense)

Notes: This is another example of a number sense activity that you can create with containers.
Idea #8: Multiple Answer MCQ Candy Jar

Notes: This setup can be used for many other skills like rhymes, addition, subtraction, alphabet, number sense, etc.
Idea #9: Sandcastle Color by Code
Clipart: Sandcastle + Seashells
Skill: Color by Code – Sight Words
Notes: Technically it’s possible to create this color by code just with the seashells. But it looks cooler with the sandcastle!
Idea #10: Flip and Cover
Clipart: Sandcastle + Seashells

Notes: Like Idea #9, you can technically create this with just the seashells alone. But using the sandcastle as the ‘container’, it just looks more like fun and less like work.
Idea #11: Cut and Paste Sorting Worksheet

Notes: Clipart containers are also great for making thematic cut and paste worksheets.
Idea #12: Thematic Word Search

Notes: In future thematic sets, I’m going to try to incorporate more square frames and letter-sized frames, so that they can fit things like word searches, word mazes and 100s charts.
Idea #13: Firefly Addends
Clipart: Empty Jar + Firefly

Notes: In this case, the firefly acts as the placeholder/blank, and the jar is where you write the answer. This setup can be applied to multiple skills like missing letters and missing numbers where you make use of a placeholder/blank.

Notes: Here’s one way to make writing cool! Containers make for great thematic writing papers.
Idea #15: Odd One Out Pizza Slices
Clipart: Pizza Box + Empty Pizza Slices
Skill: Odd one out – fruits vs snacks, real animals vs imaginary animals
Notes: Once again, this sorting activity setup works any skill you might have in mind.
How to Use Clipart
