Chapter 4: Decide on your first freebie

(back to Build a TpT Store)

Your first TpT product has to be a freebie.

Now that you have an idea for your first bundle (see previous chapter), it’s time to decide on a freebie that can help support that bundle.

You want to show quality, engagement, and rigor, but not necessarily quantity, since it’s not a paid resource.

Here’s a list of suggestions to spark some ideas.

Some freebie ideas…

  • Worksheets (5-10 pages)
  • Centers/Morning Tubs (1 to 3 activities)
  • Boom Cards/Googles Slides (1 deck)
  • A theme (if you are creating a bundle with different themes)
  • A game
  • A craft
  • Posters/charts/flash cards – if that supports your main bundle
  • One week of materials – if you are creating a year long bundle
  • Sample of the actual paid bundle
  • Others: gift tags/brag tags/Bookmarks/labels/reading logs/scavenger hunts

Down the road, when you get efficient at creating resources, you may want to add a new freebie to your store at fixed intervals and let people know that, so that they’ll be encouraged to follow you (completely optional!)

Chapter 4 Action Steps

Decide on your first freebie!

  1. Using the above suggestions + your teaching experience, write down a list of freebie ideas.
