Chapter 1: Introduction

(back to Build a TpT Store)

You might be thinking “Should I?” or “Should I not?”.

You absolutely should. So that you won’t have to look back 2 years later and wish that you had started today.

If you are the kind of person who likes to plan a little for the future, you definitely should start now.

The beginning will be a little rough, but this guide is here to help you.

What will this guide do for you?

  • Minimize overwhelm.
  • Provide a roadmap.
  • Tutorials/Breaking down of the elements.
  • Show you the PowerPoint skills you’ll need.
  • Templates for the different sections you’ll need to create your own products.

What will you need?

  1. Laptop/computer
  2. PowerPoint or Google Slides – This guide assumes you use PowerPoint, but it’s possible to do most of the same stuff on Google Slides too.
  3. Time – Time is the most valuable resource any of us have. Starting a TpT store is like investing time now, so that the extra income can give you back time in future. Also, this guide saves you the time by laying out the steps for you.
  4. Freebies from my TpT store

Will it be worth it?

My first year in a nutshell:

  • Monthly earnings: $11.20, $14.40, $2.80, $9.60, $6.80, $16, $26.24, $30.04, $43.36, $49.60, $108.64, $72.72. That’s a total of $391.40. (So becoming a premium seller immediately was worth it for my first year!)
  • 6 months in, I had 13 followers.
  • One year in, I had like 108 followers.
  • I made less than $1 per hour?!!!?
  • I could see other sellers are doing better than I am doing.

That first year was a lot of grief because I knew so little. But I had faith in my creations so I kept going.

And after almost 2 years of hanging in there, my monthly earnings started to match my teaching income.

So here’s my advice:

  1. Start now.
  2. Don’t focus on external results. Focus on creating a library of resources that fills your heart with joy.
  3. The simplest way to do something is often also the best way it.
